What To Expect
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
In a biodynamic craniosacral session, whether in-person or conducted at a distance, there is no bodily manipulation (as in chiropractic work) or energetic manipulation (as in acupuncture). When you come into stillness on the table, we allow the body to decide its own healing priorities. That means that we allow the body to express and release any stagnant or stuck energy. Often the fluid aspects of the body such as cerebrospinal fluid as well as the body's structural aspects, such as the cranial bones, can slightly adjust on their own, which creates balance and integration. Whether you come in with an intention to address any concerns, craniosacral biodynamics usually refreshes the entire system.

If you are seeing me for the first time, I ask that we spend about 1.5 hours together. I will also ask you to fill out a simple intake form - I realize that doing so can be triggering for some clients and so you are welcome to skip over any of the questions. When we meet, we will discuss any issues that are important to you and how I can meet your needs. If you are seeing me regularly, we usually begin by doing a short check-in to see what's arising for you. After the session, we spend a short time debriefing. A session can take 60 to 75 minutes. If you prefer longer sessions, that's no problem - we can discuss options.

During a session, clients are fully clothed, lie on a comfortable massage table, and if desired can use cushioned props and blankets for additional comfort. Very light touch is applied at several points of the body such as feet, head, sacrum, heart, neck, shoulders, and any areas of discomfort. However, where touch is applied and for how long, is not predetermined - a practitioner simply follows the body's cues and meets whatever support the body-being needs in the moment.
If you do not feel comfortable with touch, that's fine! Touch is not needed for craniosacral therapy to work. Even if I know that you are ok with touch, I will always ask for your consent to touch. The reason is that when you come into stillness what you thought was ok, may not be in that very moment.

During sessions, you may feel physical sensations like a tingling in the hands and feet, or a swirling or pulsing sensation of energy building in the body, or the deep and rhythmic expansion and contraction of the body's energy fields. Some clients feel like they're in a dream-like state and have images, words, or colors emerge. Some feel themselves to be simultaneously in two or more times at once (such as an adult self and a child/infant self). Some clients feel and express deep emotional release through tears, moaning, or physical twitches. And some clients fall asleep or feel nothing at all. Any experience you have is right for your system.
While sessions are mostly quiet, I will occasionally check with you to see what you are experiencing. I encourage clients to not wait for my prompting and share whatever in-progress physical, emotional, or psychic experiences they may be having. At the same time, if you prefer to have a relatively quiet or completely quiet session, that's fine too!

You can expect your system to continue to process the session for a day or so after we meet. This can feel like receiving downloads or insights, continuing to feel the depth of the session's stillness, or desiring extra rest. I suggest time to integrate after a session (at least 30 minutes), extra hydration, and plenty of adequate sleep.

Yin Yoga and Meditation
If you are seeing me for the first time, I prefer that we meet for 1.5 hours to discuss your intentions and goals. We will come up with a regular practice plan that is attuned to your needs and lifestyle. Additional sessions usually take about 60 minutes depending upon what's arising for you.
You're welcome to see me only for yin yoga, only for meditation, or for a combination of both. I will guide you in a practice, troubleshoot any obstacles you're encountering, and answer any of your questions.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. I have yoga mats, zafus, zabutons, blankets, and props but you are welcome to bring any of your own.
***Given consistent Covid surges, I am happy to wear a mask at your request. You are welcome to bring your own blankets and/or use as many of mine as you’d like. The brightness of the room and room temperature have some flexibility. I do not use scents. I can offer a three minute sound bath as an opening to our session.
